This colorful member of the cardinal family is the western counterpart of the Rose-breasted Grosbeak. As the climate of western North America warms and dries, Audubon’s climate model projects that the species will retreat upslope and north, vacating 58 percent of its current summer range. The winter suitable climate space is only peripherally covered by the model, as this species migrates to Mexico for the winter.
