The McCown’s Longspur faces the same challenge as its distant cousin, the Chestnut-collared Longspur. According to Audubon's climate model, it faces a complete loss of all summer range! Potential gains during the winter will not save the species if there's nowhere left for it to go during the summer, when breeding occurs. With such a dire forecast, action will be required to bolster current populations of the species if it is to survive the threat that climate change poses.
