Despite being called a “pigeon,” this bird is found chiefly in our western forests, often far from towns and cities. To our south, it ranges widely in tropical mountains. The Band-tailed Pigeon depends on nuts and fruits from trees, with acorns being especially prized. Audubon's climate model forecasts a decrease in suitable climate space in winter, with the future range contracting significantly.
