The handsome White-tailed Hawk has a range that currently extends from the coastal prairies of Texas south well into Argentina. A widespread and adaptable species, its main requirement seems to be expansive open areas, like grasslands or even farmland. Audubon's climate model projects a 92 percent loss of current summer range by 2080, with some potential expansion in both seasons. However, it's ability to expand may be tempered by this species’ relative reluctance to wander. The species is currently successful in a variety of tropical climates elsewhere, so new birds may fill in from points south.
